mitochondrial bioenergetics mitochondrial bioenergetics: O2 consumption, ATP synthesis, the efficiency of mitochondrial coupling and enzymatic activities were measured at three in vitro temperatures (37\u00b0C, 40\u00b0C and 43\u00b0C) in mitochondria isolated from skeletal muscle from pigeons and rats. In contrast to the previous &#8216;pigeon-rat&#8217; study, we initiated mitochondrial respiration with a common mixture of substrate pyruvate\/malate\/succinate.
