Muscle temperature sensitivity of mitochondrial efficiency in endothermic species
Barbe Jessica, Voituron Yann & Roussel Damien
To determine the effect of the increase in muscle temperature on mitochondrial bioenergetics mitochondrial bioenergetics: O2 consumption, ATP synthesis, the efficiency of mitochondrial coupling and enzymatic activities were measured at three in vitro temperatures (37°C, 40°C and 43°C) in mitochondria isolated from skeletal muscle from pigeons and rats. In contrast to the previous ‘pigeon-rat’ study, we initiated mitochondrial respiration with a common mixture of substrate pyruvate/malate/succinate. Different metabolic intensities were induced by adding different concentrations of ADP.
